GoblinMode shows the Claude and ChatGPT accounts you use, how much of each limit is left, and, if you join a team, who on your team is on which account. This page lists exactly what the app stores, where, and who can see it.
What stays on your Mac
- Claude accounts. Each Claude account you add is a separate Claude Code configuration folder under
~/.idle-claude/accounts. Sign-in happens on claude.ai in your browser. GoblinMode never reads, copies or transmits credentials or session tokens, and never calls Anthropic's API. - ChatGPT accounts. The account signed in to the ChatGPT app's Codex (
~/.codex) appears by itself; each other ChatGPT account you add gets its own Codex folder under~/.idle-claude/accounts, signed in on chatgpt.com in your browser. GoblinMode never opens Codex's login file and never calls OpenAI's API itself. To show an account's email and plan, GoblinMode asks the Codex app on your Mac, which already knows them; when you press Refresh usage, Codex contacts OpenAI with its own login. - Usage limits. Claude Code's status line reports session and weekly percentages after each reply, and Codex records its 5-hour and weekly limits in its own session files; GoblinMode reads those numbers and reset times and keeps them under
~/.idle-claude. Refresh usage asks Claude Code to send one short message as that account (not saved to your history), or asks Codex to look up the current limits (no message is sent). Refresh only runs when you click it. - Agent hooks. With your permission, GoblinMode adds entries to
~/.claude/settings.json(Claude Code) and~/.codex/hooks.json(Codex) so they can tell GoblinMode when a run starts, waits on you, or finishes. The events carry the session id, the project folder name and the request's short description. No prompt or transcript content is read. - Activity and token counts. GoblinMode reads modification dates and token counts from Claude Code's and Codex's local session logs to show "in use", today's tokens and their value at API prices. The log files never leave your Mac. If you're signed in with sync on, only the daily totals described below are saved to your GoblinMode account.
- Editor terminal profiles. If you use the Cursor option, GoblinMode adds a "Claude · email" or "Codex · email" terminal profile per account to Cursor's and VS Code's settings and installs a small helper extension in Cursor. Your other settings are left as they were.
What is sent to GoblinMode's servers
Anonymous usage counts. So we know how many people use GoblinMode, each copy sends a random install id created on your Mac (not linked to you or your accounts), the GoblinMode and macOS versions, the chip type, whether the Mac has a notch, how many accounts are attached, whether you're signed in, in a team, or have Claude Code connected, and how many agent runs started in each well-known app (for example Terminal, Ghostty, Cursor or the Claude app; any other app counts only as "other"). This happens at launch and about twice a day. It never includes emails, names, account addresses, usage numbers or any content. Turn it off in Settings › Share anonymous usage counts.
Everything else is sent only after you sign in to GoblinMode. GoblinMode's backend is hosted on Supabase, and sign-in codes are emailed through Resend. Access is enforced per team by database row-level security, and team live updates go over private channels only current members can join.
| Your GoblinMode sign-in | Your email address (sign-in is by a code emailed to you), and a display name and avatar. Accounts made earlier with GitHub also keep the name and avatar GitHub shared. Used to identify you to your team. |
| Team membership | Which teams you belong to, your role, and join requests (with the name and email of the person asking, visible to the owner). Only the team owner can see the invite code. |
| Email invites | When a team owner invites someone by email, we store that address with the invite (who invited them, when it was sent, and whether they joined) and send that person one invite email from [email protected] through Resend. Only the team owner can see the invite. The address is used for nothing else, and the person joins only if they sign in to GoblinMode with it. |
| Shared accounts | For each Claude or ChatGPT account you leave marked as shared: its email address, plan tier, session and weekly percentages with reset times, whether you are on it, and when it was last active. For ChatGPT accounts, also an account identifier so teammates on the same account are grouped together. Accounts marked private are not sent. Teammates in the same team can see these. |
| Your Stats (sync on) | So Stats can add up every Mac you use: for each account, day and model, the number of input, output and cached tokens, the number of requests and their value at API prices, plus a random id for each Mac. No prompts, replies, code, file names or project names. Private to you: teammates can't see them. Turn off in Settings › Sync Stats and accounts, which also deletes what that Mac uploaded. |
| Your account list (sync on) | The Claude and ChatGPT accounts you've added (email or account identifier, the name you gave it, plan tier and price, and their order), so another Mac can list them for you to sign in to. Never a password or login: each Mac signs in to each account itself. Private to you. |
| Presence | Whether you are online and whether an agent is working, shown to teammates while you are in a team. Project names are not sent. |
GoblinMode does not send prompts, transcripts, code, credentials or login tokens, and does not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
Updates. GoblinMode checks a small public version file in our release storage about every six hours to learn whether a newer version exists. That request carries no account or usage data. Updates are downloaded only when you click Update, and are installed only if the new copy is signed by GoblinMode's developer and notarized by Apple.
Deleting your data
- Marking an account private removes it from your team's board. Removing it from GoblinMode deletes its stored usage.
- Leaving a team, or being removed by its owner, removes your accounts from that team's board. A team owner can delete the team, which removes it for everyone.
- Run
idle uninstall --allto remove the hooks, status lines, editor profiles and everything under~/.idleand~/.idle-claude. Your main Claude Code login in~/.claudeand the ChatGPT app's login in~/.codexare left as they were.
Deleting your GoblinMode account
To delete your GoblinMode account and everything stored with it on our servers (your sign-in, profile, team memberships, join requests, shared account usage, synced Stats and account list), email [email protected] from the address you sign in with. We confirm by reply and delete the account within 30 days. If you own a team, hand it to another member first or tell us to delete the team too. Data on your Mac is removed with idle uninstall --all, as above.
You can also email us to ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, or to correct it.
